O Gauge Layout being built by Basildon MRC based upon the 7 mile branch line from Cemmes Road to Dinas. Due to space constraints at Club (max 16' layout length) we have modelled the Dinas terminus which features an out of station run round. We plan to add an extra two boards (8' in length for show use only) which will enable us to feature the NG link to the Minllyn Slate quarries via a siding called Bullock's (I kid you not). Directer/ Owner of Mine believed to have been a Mr Bullock.

    12th Mar 2007Gneiss Farm
Traditional Farm producing Vegetables and the renowned Gneiss Honey Cider. Farmer is NG Enthusiast who has linked farm to local Branch Line Station via a 15" Railway in the Heywood Style.
Access to farm is otherwise down a maze of narrow farm tracks that are often impassible in Winter.
This Gn15 Layout occupies a space of only 1.0x0.4m although a small fiddle area will be added at LH end to enhance operation. Front of Fiddle area will feature a Stable Yard area with garage.
The Layout was built by Richard Andrews, however he wished to construct a Gnew layout so I bought it.
The paved area in front of door in wall was previously grassed.
Layout has now been extended by adding a Fiddle area to LH end which will enable me to operate Layout more easily at home as well as at Exhibitions.
Fiddle areas will be concealed by a Stable block incorporating Garage detailed within.
Plans are now in hand to add section to left of Fiddle Yard which will incorporate a Coopers and a Pub (buildings by Richard Andrews). This half of layout will have a pizza enabling continuous running. Connection via fiddle yard will give 2+m end to end running. First showing of the additional section planned for Basildon Show - 2009.

Layout is available for exhibition and can be booked by going to: http://www.basildon-mrc.org.uk/ note that it is my own Layout so when quota of 3 Shows p.a. is reached it will not be available until following year.
Will appear at Shepton Small & Delightful 2009.

Series of photos taken of Salt Pan Layout (Gn15) at 2006 Basildon MRC Annual Show.
This Layout was purchased in Autumn 2005 then set in the Ballearic Islands. It has since been transformed with the setting moved to the Eastern Adriatic close by the resort of Piran in Slovenia some 20 miles South of Trieste.
Although located in Slovenia the Salt Pan workforce is traditionally Italian and hence the naming of the Layout - Secciole Salina.
Secciole being the area and Salina - Salt Pan!
The large building on the layout is traditional in the area with Salt Storage below and living accommodation above. This consisted of two bedrooms and a kitchen with eating area. There were NO bathroom facilities! These houses were only occupied from April to September when the temperature was sufficiently high to produce salt by the traditional evaporation methods. In the Secciole area it is known that Salt has been produce for the best part of a thousand years and most likely longer.
The small hut, now believed demolished was used to store work implements and as a respite from the noonday sun.
Other buildings, including modern pump houses exist , those modelled (including the Hopper) do not exist on the Secciole site BUT similar structures are found on other European Salt Pans.
The wooden Salt Pan wagons seen are those used at Secciole, they are hand worked and were constructed on ex-mine tub chassis. Those recently constructed now use Stainless steel for the corner framework to combat Salt corrosion.
Other Salt Pan locations used both Mine tubs and Skip wagons to transport the Salt from the pan to bagging facilities.
Many Salt Pans used Loco power particularly some large ones in S. Italy and Locos modelled represent these units albeit with some license. Salt Pan close to Rimini re-introduced Diesel Power in September 2006.
The layout in current form was first exhibited over July 1/2 2006 at the Basildon MRC Annual Show. Owned by the club it is available for exhibition and can be booked by going to: http://www.basildon-mrc.org.uk/
